Rich says: "I was listening to a cool song by Ani DiFranco called 'Fuel,' and I was obsessed with the groove of that song. I sat down at the computer to put a drum loop together that felt like that groove. Because I'm not very good at it, it didn't turn anything like 'Fuel,' but that was the inspiration. So, I had this new groove and a chord progression, and I sent it to Brian and said, 'go crazy!' He sent back this great guitar riff and some lyric ideas- I love writing that way because I'd never think to write a lyric like 'call in sick to work, you don't owe anything to that jerk,' but I love it! I like the bridge on this song, connecting the idea of 'digging on this feel good rhythm' to the image of a gold mine. We added horns in that section, which is a fun departure from the rest of the record".
Summer weather is best enjoyed together on a beach in Mexico
The ocean within reach sand underneath our feet baby don’t you wanna go
So call in sick to work you don’t owe anything to that jerk
Take some time to get a little sunshine and take it easy

You got to take it easy (take it easy on me baby)

I can’t deny the way that you’re looking in your brand new two piece
If I had my way I’d find a bit of shade and follow those tan lines
To the sound of the sea everything is alright
Let’s have a little fun with some coconut rum, and take it easy

You got to take it easy (take it easy on me baby)

Diggin’ on that feel good rhythm (feel good)
Diggin’ on that moonshine (moonshine)
Diggin’ on that mother lode (mother lode)
It’s a gold mine
Ahhh. your love is a gold mine

You got to take it easy

You gotta take it nice and slow
Ebb and flow

Rich says: "This is one of those songs that came really quickly, once I had that first line. I was getting ready to head out on tour, and I was excited for the adventure but dreading being away. Sometimes I find some good songs in the midst of that sort of tension. The bridge is straight autobiography- I left college (in New England), started pursuing this dream in New York City, then followed a southern girl down to Virginia and, when I proposed, gave her my great-grandmother's diamond ring. The chord progression fits the lyrics, I think, because there are some dark and moody moments in there but, ultimately, hope (and a major chord) prevails..."

Brian says:

"This song is fairly autobiographical...written after seeing an ex-girlfriend for the first time in a long time.  Unlike your typical "love song" this song is less about trying to woo and more about being at peace with an old love."

Hello Dear, its been a while, but you still got the same smile that stops me in my tracks.

Greg says: "I started singing the chorus to this tune to myself as I was riding my bike around NYC one day. It was shortly after we started the band and I realized it was ripe to be "rgb"-ified, as we called the process of arranging for the band back then. The opening lyrics came sometime later at a low point in the DIY renovation of my fixer-upper house... I was longing to be finished, but of course nothing is ever finished, so we need to take the dance breaks when we can... After we arranged it in a key that worked best for the chorus harmonies, the intro became too low for me to sing-- thus Richie sings the intro on the CD..."

This old house Is cracked and worn Walls are faded and the curtains torn Sometimes it seems like we're runnin' Just to keep fallin' behind But the day is done Darlin, won't you come Leave the dishes, turn the TV off I built a fire, and the fire is warm Don't know where but I hear the beat of drum And somewhere I swear I hear the strains of a song DANCE with ME To this Song Dance now darlin' let your hair run down DANCE with ME All night long Dance now darlin' (Dance') to this Song… Come to me, darlin' Put your hand in mine Lay your head down on my shoulder Give me your lips sweet like wine Now if a kiss is just a kiss I don't know what to make of this And although the radio plays only a storm Still somewhere I hear the downbeat of a drum DANCE with ME To this Song Dance now darlin' let your cares be gone DANCE with ME All night long Dance now darlin' (Dance') to this Song… SO LET THE LONG HAND RUN DON’T LET THE TIME WORRY US CAUSE WHEN YOUR IN MY ARMS I STILL HEAR THAT SAME SWEET SONG And I wanna Get lost… And I wanna get lost.. And I wanna get lost In this song… The Room's in a spin Kaleidoscope of light Feel just like I'm upside down But darlin please don't set me right Cause you got me lost in a feeling And I don't wanna wanna be found Don't know where but I hear the beat of drum And somewhere I swear I hear the strains of a song So, DANCE with ME To this Song Dance now darlin' let your hair run down DANCE with ME All night long Dance now darlin' (Dance') to this Song… to this... Song

DANCE WITH ME

VERSE 1

A                  E                           F#m                                             D                           A

This old house is cracked and worn         The walls are faded and the curtains torn

                  E                           F#m                                    D

Sometimes it feels we keep running just to keep from falling behind

A                                    E                                     F#m                                    D

The day is done and won’t you come         Leave the dishes turn the TV off

A           E                  F#m                  D

I built a fire, whoa and the fire is warm

PRE-CHORUS 1

E                                             D

Don’t know where but I hear the beat of a drum

E                                             D

Somewhere I swear I hear the strain of a song

CHORUS 1

A                  E                  F#m                  D                           A

Dance with me to this song          Dance now darling let you hair run down

         E                  F#m                                             D                  A      (E-F#m-D)

Dance with me all night long            Dance now darling to this song

VERSE 2

Come to me darling put your hand in mine

Lay your head down on my shoulder

Give me your lips (sweet like wine)

If a kiss is just a kiss I don’t know what to make of this

PRE- CHORUS 2

Although the radio plays only a storm

Still somewhere I swear I hear the downbeat of a drum

CHORUS 2

Dance with me to this song

Dance now darling let you cares be gone

Dance with me all night long

Dance now darling to this song

BRIDGE

F#m  E                  A

So let the long hand run

E                  F#m

Don’t let the time worry us

                  E                  A

‘Cause when you’re in my arms

E                                    D

I still hear that same sweet song

D                                    A                           Dm

And I wanna get lost in this song

VERSE 3

The room’s in a spin kaleidescope of light

Feels just like I’m upside down

Darlin’ don’t you set me right

You got me lost in a feeling

And I don’t wanna be found

PRE- CHORUS 3

Don’t know where but I hear the beat of a drum

Somewhere I swear I hear the strain of a song

CHORUS 3

Dance with me to this song

Dance now darling let you hair run down

Dance with me all night long

Dance now darling to this song

Brian says "I started writing the lyrics to this song on a bike ride home from a neighborhood get together in downtown Phx.  Once I got home, I scribbled a bunch of words down.  A couple weeks later I started messing around with the capo and came up with the chord progression.  I like how this song unfolds lyrically and the metaphors of maintaining a bicycle.  I also like this tune because there is no real chorus.  Its the anti-pop tune!"

LYRICS:

I’ve had this bike for years, Patched the tubes and fixed the gears Made the light shine bright Scare away the demons in the night Rode by your house, safe and warm Looked in the window but nobody was home I know you left long ago, But the reasons why you left nobody knows Houses look different at night, Maybe it’s the wine maybe it’s the light I’ll Take another spin around the block Got nowhere to be, I sold my watch Currency of love is counterfeit Take that away, it still hurts a bit I’d like to patch this hole inside my heart But I’m getting old, it’s too late to start Look around to see who’s there, It’s just the ghosts in the orange blossom air Staring back at me

Rich and Greg were in LA waiting for Brian to arrive for a gig that night and started working this song for which Rich had started the verses one day while watching a wicked storm over Lake George in NY. Thus the reference to "cobblestone walls" which are common to that region... See, some trivia and everything.
